Master Production Scheduling (MPS)

The Master Production Schedule module has multi-warehouse / plant capability and is designed to set production schedules in just-in-time, make-to- order, make-to-stock and repetitive environments. MPS is designed to accept forecast data from a variety of sources and the MPS may be presented in units or currency.

The MPS module is bucketless with a user-defined series of reporting periods for easy reference. The master scheduler establishes three planning time fences: the planning horizon, the firm planning time fence and the demand time fence (when MPS is frozen). The planner can maintain planning exception messages and priority and filter levels for each message.

A wide range of planning characteristics can be established at the item and plan level to define the planning rules.

Statistical forecasting provides seasonality, item grouping, user defined alpha smoothing and safety factors.

As planned orders are authorized, the capacity plan is automatically maintained.

The MPS module includes features such as statistical forecasting, independent forecast, rounding mechanism definition, variable period size and abnormal demand masks.

The features in this module include:

  • MPS runs as a simulation with an authorization step
  • Separate forecasts from multiple sources
  • Multi-plant scheduling
  • Bucketless with user defined reporting periods
  • Multi-level planning
  • User defined time fences:
    • Demand time fence
    • Firm planning time fence
    • Planning horizon
  • Accumulated lead time can override demand time fence
  • User maintained messages & filters
  • ATP by period or cumulative by plant or item
  • Abnormal demand definition/trapping
  • User defined rounding for low volume items
  • Forecasts specified by data and coverage period
  • Forecast copies
  • Forecast period can be different from production period
  • Multiple forecast and MPS variants
  • Variable due for release message time fence
  • Min/Max production rates / periods for Just-In-Time / repetitive & capacity constrained items
  • MPS authorization selective by group, planner, code, item, date
  • Run MPS now or defer
  • MPS maintainable before and after authorization
  • Statistical forecasting
  • Component and parent scrap
  • Component lead time offsets
  • Plans correctly in the past due
